The Coffee You'll Taste at Waffle Monkey

Waffles get top billing, but the coffee at Waffle Monkey isn't an afterthought. We pour Café Britt, Costa Rica's most established gourmet coffee roaster, in every cafe — from Tamarindo to Bonita Springs to George Town. It's the same coffee we drank when the first Waffle Monkey opened on the beach in Costa Rica, and it's still the coffee we want in your cup today.

From the same country as our first cafe — and our favourite cup.

Why Café Britt?

When you build a brand around Costa Rican roots, the coffee has to actually come from Costa Rica. Café Britt has been roasting in the Central Valley for over 38 years — long enough to know what they're doing, small enough to still care about every bean. They roast at origin, which matters more than most people realise. Coffee loses its character when beans are shipped green and roasted thousands of miles from where they grew. Roasting in Costa Rica, close to the farms, locks in the flavour profile the way the growers intended.

What We Serve

Across our cafes you'll taste two Café Britt roasts in regular rotation:

Espresso Roast — Whole Bean

The backbone of every espresso, cappuccino, latte, and flat white we pull. Rich, balanced, with the kind of crema that makes a flat white look as good as it tastes. This is the cup that defines how a Costa Rican espresso should drink.

Dark Roast — Whole Bean

For when you want a fuller, smokier cup. Our dark roast is bold without being burnt, deep without being bitter. It's the one regulars order black, and the one we recommend if you take your coffee strong.

We grind to order, so every cup is as fresh as the bean — no pre-ground bags sitting around.

Single Origin, Strictly Hard Bean

Costa Rican coffee earns the SHB classification — Strictly Hard Bean — when it's grown above 1,200 metres. Higher elevation means slower-growing beans, denser cells, brighter flavour. Café Britt's beans come from the Central Valley and Tarrazú highlands, both renowned for SHB-grade coffee. This isn't just a marketing badge. SHB beans hold their character through roasting and brewing in a way lower-grown beans don't. It's why the coffee in your cup at Waffle Monkey tastes consistent whether you're in Tamarindo or Sarasota.

Responsible Farming, Real Community

Café Britt's approach to coffee isn't just about the cup. Their work spans:

Try It For Yourself

The best way to understand the coffee is to taste it. Visit any Waffle Monkey, order an espresso, a flat white, or a simple Americano. See if you can tell the difference between coffee roasted at origin and coffee roasted in a warehouse halfway around the world. We think you can. Want to take it home? Café Britt sells direct, and ships their beans worldwide.
